About The Ministry

There is so much to say about how God is working through 4 THE WORD...

“We want to milk you like a cow!” Kenyan pastor

The International pastors are desperate for training in the Word of God. They stay well past the day’s event to ask Biblical and church leadership questions. It is moving to see their desire to shepherd the church well.

During one session of queries and answers, a Kenyan pastor announced, “We want to milk you like a cow.”

As an American Christian, your Bible knowledge far surpasses that of most pastors in developing countries. There is little to no opportunity for them to receive Bible instruction.

If you love Jesus, YOU ARE QUALIFIED to assist Russ in training these men and women.

Is God calling YOU to travel and train on a 2024 trip with 4theWord? Rest assured, teaching curriculum is provided for your preparation, and several zoom planning meetings are most helpful.

About Our Founder
Rev. Russ Couwenhoven

Russ and Ann Pic.JPEG

Russ received his B.A. in Bible and Communications from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, MN; then went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Bethel Theological Seminary. He has been in full time pastoral ministry since 1991 and was elected Conference Superintendent of the North Central Conference of The Evangelical Church in 2013. In 2019 he was elected as Executive Mission Director for  Evangelical Church Missions.

While traveling to various mission fields, Russ saw the lack of training available to pastors in developing countries. He received a strong call to International pastor training as his primary ministry focus. Russ' passion has always been rightly dividing the Word of God, developing leaders, reaching the lost,

and discipling them into fully devoted followers of Jesus.

He is married to Ann, his gifted partner in raising 12 amazing children. They currently have 6 grandchildren who bring them great joy.
